Create a Designated, Quiet Space for Your Office

The ideal work-from-home setup is one where you can work without distraction and noise. Create a designated space in your home for your office. It doesn’t have to be a formal office. If you don’t have a spare room, you can designate a space for your office in the:

  • Kitchen
  • Living room
  • Bedroom

Creating a home office space will make it easier to draw the line between your work life and your personal life. It’s a space where you can sit down and focus on the day’s tasks without getting caught up in home life.

Invest in an Ergonomic Zero Gravity Chair

Once you have a designated space for your office, you can start making it more comfortable and personal. One of the best things you can do to create a comfortable home office is invest in an ergonomic zero gravity chair, like the Perfect Chair from Human Touch.

The Perfect Chair’s adjustable backrest and legrest allow you to find the perfect position for your unique body. In addition, the zero gravity position takes stress off the spine and allows you to take a break from work.

A chair like this also works well with laptop desks, which can save you space if you don’t have a designated room for your office. Human Touch offers a Perfect Chair Laptop Desk accessory that can be matched to most of their Perfect Chair models.

Have a Sensible Workspace

A comfortable, ergonomic chair is an important start when building your home office. After all, you’ll be sitting in a chair for most of the day. But you also need to make sure that you have a suitable workspace.

A sensible workplace should include:

  • A desk of some sort, whether it be a laptop desk, traditional desk or a sit/stand desk.
  • Lighting. Go beyond overhead lighting to also include a desk or task lamp.
  • Shelving or storage to keep your desk organized.
  • Printers or other equipment you may need to use regularly.
  • Additional seating if you will be meeting with clients in your home office.

Your workspace should have everything you need within arm’s reach.

Let Natural Light In

When setting up an office at home, it’s important to consider lighting. The proper lighting can boost productivity and help you stay focused. Along with artificial lights, consider ways to let more natural light in.

If you have a designated room for your office, consider placing your desk or workspace near a window to maximize natural light.

Installing sheer curtains instead of blinds will allow in natural light while protecting your privacy. If privacy isn’t a concern, giving yourself a view of the outdoors can also help you stay on task during the workday.

Prioritizing natural light can not only help with productivity, but also help reduce energy costs. On bright, sunny days, you may not need to use any artificial lighting in your office space.

 Add Personal Touches

Your home office should be a space that you enjoy being in and a reflection of your personality. Therefore, when designing your home-based business office setup, make sure that you add some personal touches.

If you have a designated office, consider painting the walls a color that you love. Other home office setup ideas include:

  • Hanging artwork
  • Adding plants to your space
  • Adding a few (one or two) nick knacks to your desk

Adding personal touches will help make your space feel more inviting and comfortable.

Ditch the Clutter

If you want to create the perfect workspace, ditch the clutter. Having one or two decorative items on your desk is okay, but it’s best to keep your workspace as clean and organized as possible.

An organized, clutter-free space makes it easier to stay focused and productive. Busy, cluttered and chaotic spaces can make you feel overwhelmed and stressed.

Final Thoughts

The best home office setup is one where you feel comfortable, productive and focused. These five tips can help you create the ideal home office for your needs. The key most important thing is to make sure that your chair and desk or work surface don’t contribute to back pain or poor posture. An ergonomic zero gravity chair and a desk of the appropriate height can promote good posture while taking the stress off your spine.
