Depending on these criteria, the first and best option that comes to mind is the propane fire pit. So we have come up with a cost-effective and easy-to-follow idea of making a propane fire pit in the backyard. Before going to the building process, let’s look at the advantages of a propane fire pit for the backyard.

Why Make A Propane Fire Pit For Backyard

As a fire fuel, propane burns the cleanest and is almost smokeless. When you use propane to fuel a fire pit, you will get warmth with a breathable atmosphere. Unlike a wood-burning fire pit, propane fire pits are more permissible in local households spaces like backyards. Cause the effects of propane burning on the environment are insignificant. Additionally, there are other extensive benefits of a propane fire pit in the backyard. For example,

  • It will create a perfect focal point in your backyard.
  • A propane fire pit doesn’t produce smoke, ash, or char. That means your backyard will remain clean and free of any mess.
  • Arranging a sophisticated seating space around a backyard fire pit will never be so easy. Cause you don’t have to worry about protecting your furniture and decor from the ash particles.
  • Usually, a propane fire pit in the backyard will offer you a tabletop feature. That enables using the fire pit even on summer days and as an outdoor dining area.
  • Another practical advantage of making a propane fire pit in the backyard is that you have to worry about cleaning and maintenance.

How to Make a Backyard Fire Pit

If you have chosen an area in your backyard for the fire pit arrangement, then make sure the place is far enough away from your main household, at least 10 feet. Then find out if there are any possible combustible things nearby. Yet propane fire pits do not tend to produce very high flame despite try to choose if there are no tree branches upon the space. Or, if there is any patio ceiling, it is at the proper height.

After ensuring this primary safety line, let’s have a glance at the necessary equipment for building a backyard propane fire pit.

Tools and Equips

  • A square or rectangular burner basin of your choice of size
  • Burner kit with ignitor
  • Propane tank
  • Steel, or stone, or brick, or concrete as the building block
  • Lava rocks or fire glass
  • Sealer
  • Heat Proofing material
  • Basic tools

Step 1: Prepare the burner by connecting the burner kit with the burner basin. You can choose any size and shape of the burner basin. We recommend the square or rectangular ones to get the perfect tabletop feature.

Step 2: After connecting the burner kit with the basin, take the measure and match it up with the desired tabletop size you’re wanting. Now make the upper part of the propane fire pit. Here you can custom made this from a professional. Or using concrete, thin rods, and a wood board brace, you can make it yourself.

Step 3: Now it’s time to make the base structure of the fire pit. For that, you can choose from steel, brick, stone, or concrete. Choose the material that is compatible with your backyard exterior.

Step 4: Calculate the measurement of the base according to the upper part. Make sure the height is perfect for hiding the propane tank inside. A gateway on base for inserting and removing the propane tank would be convenient. Also, don’t forget to seal the inner part of the base with a heat-proofing material. It will protect the bottom and side parts from getting too hot. This inner sealing is also good for keeping the whole structure resistant and durable.

Step 5:  After completing making your base, the upper part adjusts the burner. Then ensure everything is matching up perfectly. Give a final touch-up, tumble the edges, and stain the fire pit structure.

Step 6: Now, it’s time for the final set-up. Place the propane tank, connect it with the burner and test the ignition. If everything works well, then decorate and cover up the burner with lava rocks or fire glass.

Finally, your backyard fire pit is ready to rock. Arrange some seats, add up the comfy cushions and colorful quilts. To make the time more joyful, ask your friend to come over and grab some appetizers and suitable drinks. After touching up with little lighting, your backyard will look like the ultimate chilling destination. And the night will be younger and warmest than ever before!
