Although your air conditioner probably hasn’t gotten much of a workout over the winter, the weather is changing. The cold months are coming to a close in many parts of the country.

As temperatures begin to rise again, it’s time to circulate some cool air around the house.

However, during your air conditioner’s downtime, something could have gone wrong with your machine. There are some warning signs that an AC is failing.

Read on to discover 8 common signs that suggest you need AC repair.

Power Issues

Not blowing air is an obvious indicator that your AC is faulty. Alternatively, the AC may be powering on and then shutting down. Both instances suggest there may be an electrical issue with the system.

Check the breakers to ensure the device is getting power. If you aren’t having any luck maintaining power, you need repair professionals.

Making Noises

If you have lived with your AC for some time, chances are you know the sounds it makes when it cycles.

Therefore, if your system starts to make strange noises, you need to pay attention. A few of the problem sounds are grinding, banging, and screeching.

These noises are a cry for help from your AC. You should not hesitate to set up a service.

Constant Cycling

When you run the air, the system should cycle on for a spell, blow cold air, and then shut off. If you notice the AC constantly cycling on and off, it’s bad news.

Even on the hottest days, the AC shouldn’t be frequently cycling. It’s possible this can be fixed with a routine maintenance service.

Low Air Pressure

If you think the AC is not working, put your hand up to one of the vents. If you feel reduced or very low air pressure, your suspicions are confirmed.

Your home will never cool down to the set temperature if the air pressure is too low. Schedule AC repair services before it gets too hot.

High Humidity

Not only is the AC for cooling down the house, but it’s also good for avoiding the humidity.

Yet, if your AC is blowing and you still feel high humidity indoors, you have a problem. There should not be a palpable level of humidity when the air is blowing.

Circulating Warm Air

Nothing could be worse on those very hot days than the AC also blowing warm air. The first thing to check is if the system is on cool and the set temp is lower than the thermostat.

If that isn’t the issue, the AC likely has restricted airflow or a compressor problem. In this case, air conditioner repair is required.

Strange Odor

Bad odors blowing out of the AC vents are very off-putting. This could be the result of mildew or microbe growth in the system.

You may need a complete cleaning of the air conditioner and the ductwork. Take a look at Top Gun Heating and Air to see how the process works.

Moisture and Leaking

Look for leaks accumulating at the base of your AC system. If you consistently see puddles, you have an issue.

The system could be leaking refrigerant. If your AC loses refrigerant, it won’t be able to cool the house down.

Do You Need AC Repair?

Based on this guide, take some time to diagnose your system. If you notice any of these issues, you need to schedule AC repair before it gets any hotter.
