Use a combination vanity unit

A combination vanity unit combines both the toilet and the sink unit which not only looks trendy but it saves a tonne of space. You can get different types of combination vanity units so it’s worth looking around for one that fits your space. Some vanity units come larger in size while others are condensed to fit in the smallest of bathrooms.

Combination vanity units are quite popular in 2022 with new bathroom designs and the space-saving element is a big factor in why most people pick them for their bathrooms.

Float furniture where possible

This doesn’t mean you need to perform magic in your bathroom, what it does mean is that fixtures, fittings and storage boxes can be fitted to the wall without touching the floor, this gives your furniture a floating effect.

Floating your furniture off the floor doesn’t add more space to your bathroom but it does give the illusion of space. This illusion of space is what many bathroom designers use to make the most of a small bathroom.

Install corner furniture

Corner furniture is useful for fitting into corners of the room where other furniture wouldn’t. Installing furniture in the corner allows you to have more space for other bathroom furniture which is one of the main reasons why corner bathroom furniture is so popular.

Create a wet room

A wetroom not only looks amazing but they work very well for smaller bathrooms too. A typical bathroom will have a shower, bathtub, sink and toilet. All of these are sectioned off and take up so much room. A wetroom on the other hand doesn’t have so many visible barriers and seems a lot bigger than it is.

Wetrooms can be installed in your bathroom for much cheaper than they used to be and they are very functional for families too.

Use large mirrors

A trick that commercial buildings use to make them look bigger is to install mirrors. Your bathroom is no different either. Bathroom mirrors come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes and can come with or without lights. We spoke to bathroom design experts Bathroom Supastore about selecting the right mirror for your bathroom, they said:

“Using large mirrors above your wash basin can make your bathroom look bigger and add depth to your room. When choosing a bathroom mirror we would recommend getting the best quality mirror that you can afford. Bathroom mirrors aren’t cheap but buying a quality mirror can make your room look of higher quality.”

Mount towel rails on the door

When you don’t have enough space in your bathroom you have to get creative. One way is by mounting the towel rail to your bathroom door, A simple yet effective trick to maximising the room in your bathroom.

Use oversized tiles

Using oversized tiles in your bathroom is another visual trick that bathroom designers use to trick your eyes into thinking the room is larger than it is. With less grout and fewer visual breaks, your eyes are tricked into thinking your bathroom is larger. For full effect, you can use the same tiles on the floor and the walls. This technique is often used in luxury hotels.

Install a smaller bathtub

This may sound obvious but if you have less space you will need to use smaller items in your bathroom. One item which people often don’t think about is shrinking down the bathtub.

There are various styles of bathtubs that are smaller than your standard baths. Japanese style tubs for example are much smaller in length than your traditional tub but are often deeper, because of this these tubs still allow for a relaxing experience.

Use a glass shower door

A glass shower door can make your bathroom look more spacious as it once again tricks your eyes into thinking there is more room than there is. If you use a sheet shower door it can cut off the space and cut out the light, this makes your bathroom look small.

Add nooks for extra storage

Storage is something that we can use to cut down on clutter and as a result, allow us to get more out of our bathrooms. One way of adding storage to your bathroom is to add nooks into the wall when building your bathroom. Nooks can be added to your shower to make room for your bathing products.
