Moving is a significant undertaking. There will be lots of things to do, as well as a lot of time and effort invested. If you hire a moving company or are moving into an apartment, that also puts you on a schedule.

When moving homes, you are probably not taking all of your belongings. Some furniture you might sell, give away, or leave behind in your old residence if the new owner allows it. Whatever it is, give yourself enough time to properly donate, sell, or arrange for it to transfer ownership. When you do this, you cut down on the number of items that need to be packed.

A Guide to Becoming a Better Landlord: What You Need to Know

August 4, 2023

In addition, there are other ways to prepare before your big move. To make things a little easier on you, here are our tips on how to prepare before moving homes.

Use Packing Supplies For Delicate Items

From large TVs to delicate glassware or heirlooms, some things you move with will be extremely fragile. Packing supplies should be used to secure and protect these items. Any mover will know how to wrap not only delicate items, but also furniture and anything imaginable. Having the right packing supplies are an absolute must.

Besides moving boxes, the packing supplies you might need include things like markers, labels, packing tape, bubble wrap, zip tie bags, moving blankets, plastic wrap, and more. You can purchase these yourself or go through a moving service for some of this.

Start Packing As Early As Possible

Packing always takes more time than most of us think it will. Start assembling the boxes and packing supplies you need way beforehand. Take the time to give yourself plenty of run-up, packing a little at a time and not getting Some moving companies can also provide packing services, so if you really don’t like packing, that’s something else to consider. Call Moveday Movers to get a superb moving experience.

Every box you pack, label it with a clear title, enter it on your smartphone, or mark it down on paper. You don’t want to leave a box behind accidentally and, when you have to unpack, distributing these boxes into the right rooms gets a lot easier. Some people number their boxes instead. However, clear labelling with the room title on it is better in most cases, especially if you are hiring a moving company.

Get Your Utilities Set Up

At your old place, ensure those utility accounts have been closed. At your new place, open up accounts and update the address and information on existing accounts. Ensure the water, electricity, and gas are turned on. Have it move-in ready.

You may need to wait for something like the Internet. However, at least set up some utilities beforehand so that you can charge devices, take a shower at the end of the day, and adjust the temperature. Call Moveday Movers to get a superb moving experience.

Take Photos of Your Items

Take photos of sensitive items and furniture to compare if there is any damage in the ride to your new residence. Take photos of behind your flat-screen, with what wires go where and where cables connect.

You may also take photos of any displays in your old home you intend to duplicate in your new place. Although you don’t have to take this step, it’s reassuring to some people to have photo evidence of these things, making it easier to unpack and set up.

Pack a Day Bag

Just in case, have a day bag ready. Keep this bag with you. This should contain essentials, i.e. medicines, toothbrush and toothpaste, a change of clothes, and USB charging cables. If something happens and your move-in time is delayed or if you aren’t able to unpack for some reason, you don’t want to be running around trying to find where you packed your toothpaste and moisturizer. Have a day bag.

Book Off Your Move-In Day and the Day After

Some people try to cram in moving. They rush. They get stressed. Instead of that being reality, book off the day for yourself as well as the day after. No appointments. No other plans. Have an entire two days to get everything moved, unpacked, and set up.

This way, you can take your time. There doesn’t have to be a big rush. You will have no other place to be. Set up something simple for dinner and keep a cold beverage close by you throughout the day. Make it the easiest move you can.

Visit Your New Area Beforehand

Most people who are moving have already seen their new place and know the neighbourhood a bit. In case you don’t, about a week before your move, make sure you get out there and drive through. Especially if it’s a condo or apartment, understand where you’re going to park, any challenges you may experience driving in, and gather any other visual information that might be of use.
