New Front Door

You may have heard the term curb appeal before, which relates to the way that your home looks from the curbside when you pull up. The natural first step with this in mind then is a front door replacement. This doesn’t have to cost the Earth and there are some reasonably priced, solid and secure doors which you can choose from which will look great and kick start your low cost renovation project.

Stair Runner

Most people are greeted by the stairs once they open the door, and these too can get an upgrade. Now of course investing in a brand new staircase is going to be a costly project, which is why a stair runner is a much better idea. Strip any carpet from the stairs and give the timber underneath a good coating of gloss paint. Adding a stair runner up the middle of the stairs will give you a great new look when you come through the door. Additionally this will provide a more solid footing as you climb the stairs, which will take the pressure off the staircase below.

Painting Floorboards

Adding new flooring to the home is going to certainly require a large investment, but many people actually have high-quality floorboards which they are too eager to cover up. Sanding the floorboards and then painting them could be the perfect way for you to transform the rooms in the home and give the feeling that a larger renovation project has taken place.

Reintroduce a Fireplace

Once upon a time, all homes had fireplaces in them, but throughout the 80s and 90s it became far more fashionable to block them up. In fact, most modern houses don’t have this kind of feature unless it has been specifically asked for. If you have an older house which has blocked in the fireplace, why not consider reopening it? There are two choices here, you could either open it all back up so that it is once again functional, or you could simply reopen the fireplace itself and place logs inside for a new and cozy look to the room.

Bespoke Shelving

A lot of homes have awkward spaces which pose challenges in terms of what you can do with them, in such situations bespoke shelving is a great idea. You can never have too much storage space and this will be the perfect way to make use of those awkward areas around the property. Any corners or alcoves can be turned into bespoke shelving offering a different look and a new place to keep things.

Reupholster Your Sofa

Investing in a new sofa will set you back quite a chunk of cash, and this may not even be necessary if you have no complaints about the springs and comfort of your current sofa. If this is the case then you can give your sofa a new life by investing in an upholstery job. Pick some new fabric for the sofa and have a company carry out the work for a fraction of the cost of a new sofa. The result will be a delightful sofa which will transform the room which it is in. This is a low cost option which really does deliver.

These are just some of the ideas which you could consider when it comes to renovating the home without breaking the bank. If you have any more suggestions, feel free to share your budget tips in the comments section below.
