1. A Cool Roofing

Heat is an issue that affects many people, especially during summer. A home with a lot of heat can be too uncomfortable. Additionally, your energy bills will rise since your air conditioner has to run all the time to cool the temperatures in your home. Therefore, you need to install a roof that reflects away more sunshine and absorbs less heat, improving the energy efficiency of your home.

Consider clay tiles, concrete tiles, membrane roofing, living roofs, and reflective metal roofing when looking for cool roofing material. However, if you cannot afford to install a new roof, you can enhance the existing one with retrofitting reflective material.

2. A Fresh Coat of Paint

Painting your home is essential since it protects your house from harsh weather conditions and allows you to customize your home according to your needs. Paint can also help to enhance curb appeal and improve your property value. However, the paint will start chipping or fade with time, making your home look dull and unattractive. Therefore, you need to paint your house regularly. It is advisable to start with the exterior part, which is usually exposed, and finish with the interior walls.

When painting your home, you don’t have to use the same color all through. You can use a two-toned color scheme to highlight different areas of the house. Also, ensure you use quality paint that can serve you for some time.

3. Upgrade the Lighting in Your Home

Many people tend to concentrate on furniture and walls when renovating their homes. However, one of the most efficient ways to improve the mood of your home is to focus on improving your indoor and outdoor lighting.

When improving the lighting in your home, you need to keep in mind that each room or space requires a different type of lighting depending on the use. When it comes to lighting up the bedrooms, you can use a pair of wall sconces. Alternatively, you may use a tiny accent chandelier. If you don’t want a labor-intensive project, you can choose unique and attractive floor lamps. For tech fanatics, get a home lighting system that can be integrated with Google Home or Amazon Alexa. Finally, you can line your lawn or driveway with affordable outdoor lights to create a welcoming feeling.

4. A Rain Water Harvesting System

Installing a rainwater harvesting system is necessary if you live in areas that experience a lot of rain. You can use it to water your plants, wash your car and clean various household items, saving you the cost of paying for municipal water. If you live in an area that experiences water shortage, you can use rainwater for essential activities like cooking. However, you need to treat the water first to prevent infections.

To harvest rainwater, you need to install gutters first. After installing the gutters, you can add gutter guards to ensure the water that enters your gutter does not contain debris, especially if you have a lot of trees in your compound. This way, the rainwater will flow freely, and you will save up on the time and money spent cleaning gutters.

When harvesting rainwater, you will need a tank to collect and store the water. Consider using the underground storage option if you have limited space in your compound.

Before installing a rainwater harvesting system, ensure you check the laws and regulations in your region since each state has different rules for harvesting rainwater. For some states, harvesting rainwater is illegal, while others restrict how you use the water. Other laws may require you to use professionals when installing rainwater collection systems other than DIY projects.

5. Improve Your Bathroom

If you want a home renovation project that can improve your daily life, upgrade your bathroom. When renovating your bathroom, invest in fixtures that can transform your bathroom into a spa-like retreat. You can start by replacing your showerhead with the newest, stylish but functional showerheads with little effort. Moreover, you can replace the countertops, install heated flooring, or even add a steam room or sauna to your bathroom. You could even install a nice resting bench to achieve a spa-like experience if you have enough space.

When it comes to the powder room, you can add a fresh coat of paint or stick a stylish wallpaper. You can also put standalone tubs in the bathroom for a classy and unique look.

Final Words

Home improvement projects are necessary, but they require you to spend a lot of money. Therefore, before starting this project, ensure you know the amount of money you need to carry out and save up enough. This way, you will avoid surprises when the project is ongoing.
