Protect yourself

Before beginning work with any mechanical device, you should make sure that you are well protected. Wearing protective equipment like glasses, safety boots, gloves, and protective ear coverings is the ideal dressing while working with an electric whipper-snipper.

Wearing short clothing is discouraged as flying debris and dust can hit or even stick to your skin surface and develop allergies. Electric whipper snipper uses a high-speed blade to cut off the grass and other plantings cleanly, so it is vital to protect yourself from injuries. Wearing safety boots can help you prevent unforeseen accidents while working.

Inspect the ground

Most gardens have different types of particles hidden in the grass, and such particles can become problematic while working with a whipper snipper. Before beginning work, the work area and surroundings should be inspected properly to avoid problems.

Small pieces of glass and metal are often lying here and there, so you have to be careful with them. If they contact the blade, such pieces can go flying far away and injure someone. It is a good idea to inspect and clean up the ground manually before beginning working with a whipper snipper.

Keep the cables safe

Electric whipper snipper come with cables that provide power to them. Cables are an essential part of the whipper snipper to work. If a cable gets cut or burnt, it might result in abrupt stoppages.

While working, make sure that the cables stay away from the blade, as the edge can severely damage cables. Also, you should not keep the whipper snippers running continuously, or they might get heated and result in internal short circuits. Such short circuits are the primary reason for burns in electric whipper-snippers.

Keep people away

While working with a whipper snipper, you should provide adequate signage to bypassers regarding your work. Try keeping people away as much as possible. Chances of injury increase as more people come near the whipper snipper.

As we talked about above, even small debris pieces can fly away at full speeds. Anyone nearby the whipper snipper can get hurt. So it is good advice to keep people away from the workplace. If you are working at an open public place, you should provide signs regarding work in progress and also request people to stay away by explaining the consequences.

Working with an electric snipper looks good as it eases out all our gardening tasks. But remember it is only as good as you can make it. If you do not take proper precautions, it can lead to severe injuries. Working with a whipper snipper without proper safety can leave you with nightmares. So follow the best practices mentioned above and be as safe as possible.
