For added safety, our pools have a child safety ledge integrated into the side of the pool and all surfaces and steps are non-slip whilst being soft underfoot.
Installing a swimming pool is a hugely exciting occasion, but it is a significant home improvement and one that shouldn’t be divd into without doing your homework first. Our team here at Barrier Reef Pools Brisbane include you in the pool building process, from start to handover to make sure you are heard and that your new swimming pool exceeds your expectations. There are laws in place regarding new pool and spa installations in Brisbane. Here are some factors you’ll need to consider:
Knowing the Safety and Planning Laws for Brisbane
The safety and planning laws that apply in one state may not in another, so you must be aware of the laws applicable for Brisbane.
Before a new swimming pool or spa can be built in Brisbane, you will need to have the following approvals issued from a private building certifier or your local council first. This is what you’ll need:
- A sewerage and water supply approval
- A building permit
- A structural stability permit
After these have been approved, construction can start. All swimming pools and spas built here in Brisbane need to be registered on the Queensland Pool Safety Register. Your pool or spa will also need a pool safety barrier, and it will need to be inspected by a building certifier to ensure it meets Australian pool fencing standards. While all of this can sound overwhelming, it’s not something you will have to worry about when building a pool with us because our pool builders will take care of it for you!
The pool builder you choose should be licenced and insured. You can check their licence status via the Queensland Building and Construction Commission. You will be given a domestic contract which you’ll need to read in full before signing it to ensure you agree to the terms and conditions stipulated in the contract.
If you’d like more information on this you can find it here at the Queensland Building and Construction Commission website https://www.qbcc.qld.gov.au/sites/default/files/Swimming%20Pools.pdf
Which fibreglass pool is best suited to me in Brisbane?
Years ago, you would have seen a high number of large family pools in Brisbane backyards, fast-forward to today and smaller pools are starting to dominate as backyards continue to decrease in size. This factor alone will dictate what kind of pool you can have. Other factors such as your budget and what your swimming requirements are will also influence your pool decision. Choosing the right pool very much comes down to the individual and what you want out of having a swimming pool. For instance, if you want a pool for swimming laps, a spa isn’t going to cut the mustard. Plunge pools tend to be particularly popular amongst those with both big and modest backyards. They allow enough room for paddling and relaxing whilst being easy to clean and economical to run. Choosing a pool or spa is a big decision, and our team will run through all of your options including add ons for your pool to ensure that you are completely satisfied with the finished product.
Can I use my pool all year round with Brisbane’s weather?
The best way to get the most from investing in a pool is by using it often, and here in Brisbane, you are sure to get plenty of use out of it. Unlike some other states, the weather is warm for most of the year here. The only time it may be too cold for swimming is when winter approaches. While it is only a brief period that it is too cold for swimming, it doesn’t mean you have to forgo using it all together until the weather heats up again. Heating is a great option, even if you are living in Brisbane. It can raise the temperature considerably and allows you to enjoy the pool comfortably without having to vigorously exercise just to keep warm. The great thing about modern-day technology is that heating for pools is no longer a luxury item. Options such as solar can reduce your running costs to the bare minimum. Rather than chewing electricity or gas, they work by utilising natural energy from the sun. In Brisbane, as the cold season is so short, it’s likely you won’t need to use it excessively, so your running costs will be minimal.
